LAS VEGAS (MAY 11, 2023)   Lee Canyon announces its record-setting winter season finishes Sunday, May 14. The resort received 266 inches of snow this year, the most recorded. Also, Lee Canyon saw more than 100,000 skier visits, a record for the area. (The term skier visits is total visitation by skiers and snowboarders.) Ending winter operations on a late date like May 14 is another first for the resort.

Sunday’s festivities include a DJ set at Hillside Lodge and a Splash and Dash race, a fusion of boarder cross and pond skimming. The race starts at 11 a.m.; entry is free, and registration occurs at the event. All skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to wear costumes. An award ceremony for the Splash and Dash race and outstanding costumes will be held at The Bristlecone at 3 p.m.

“This winter season warrants a celebration,” said Jim Seely, Lee Canyon’s director of marketing. “We appreciate the Las Vegas community’s passion for outdoor recreation throughout the year.”

Starting Friday, May 19, the resort will be open for three-day weekends; guests can enjoy scenic chair rides, the Brewin Burro coffee house, and hiking on the nearby Bristlecone trail.

Lee Canyon will also begin preparing for summer operations and events. In addition to favorite summer activities like disc golf, hiking, archery, and axe throwing, Lee Canyon will host the grand opening of its downhill mountain bike park this summer. Details on the resort’s summer opening and the mountain bike park will come in the weeks ahead.

“Compared to the 2018/19 season, last summer we saw about a 300 percent increase in summer visitation,” said Seely. “That’s partially due to the mountain bike park but also illustrates how much residents value spending time in the Spring Mountains during the summer.”
